Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
ECTs have been proven to produce substantial improvement in approximately 80% of appropriately referred patients. ECT often works more rapidly than other treatments.
ECTs are effective in the treatment of:
• Major Depressive Disorder
• Bipolar Disorder
• Schizophrenia, especially when accompanied by psychosis
• Catatonia, found both in psychotic disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders
Truman Medical Center, Lakewood, offers ECT treatments in their Post-Acute Anesthesia Unit by a specially trained team including an ECT Credentialed psychiatrist, Anesthesiologist, Critical Care Certified RN and ECT/Psychiatric Nurse. Patients referred for ECT maintain their relationship with their current psychiatric provider.
